SETTING OUT FALL TRANSPLANTS.
Last week, while Jesse was recovering from his porch tumble, Cher and Eric and I set out a thousand (literally!) of transplants for the fall garden....lettuce, celery, leeks, cauliflower. It is SO exciting to start thinking about the fall garden - cooler weather, abundant greens, all in all, a much EASIER time of year for us. Eric direct seeded several more rows of carrots and kale, and we started cabbage and pac choi and collards in soil blocks. The butternut squash and sweet potatoes are coming along nicely, and all these chilly nights we've been having have me a bit impatient for FALL!- Hannah.

TODAY'S HAPPENINGS.
First off, check out our friend's The Breedings new record "Fayette"— out today! The Breedings are an Americana brother/sister duo from Kentucky (and indeed aware that they are a brother/sister duo from Kentucky named The Breedings). Their songs are tuneful, melodically rich, beautiful and catchy. Watch their new video for "Calm" and check the new record on iTunes!Secondly, we decided to come to Bowling Green today and we'll be setting up at the Community Farmer's Market this evening. We've got plenty of vegetables and t-shirts available—please come say hi!- Jesse.
THE GRAVITY OF GRAVITY.
I was thinking about the watermelon I'd just eaten, and about picking up the cutting board. I wasn't thinking about the three and a half feet between me and the ground. Any other time I would have had no reason to, but suddenly and violently, gravity gave me reason. It's an unreal force, gravity. It's a wonder our ancestors ever decided standing on two legs was a good idea. I felt as if I had been grabbed by an invisible, angry wrestler and body slammed. Fast. At a speed of thirty-two feet per second per second, to be exact. I had stepped over the cutting board, put all my weight on the side of the porch, and the next thing I knew I was on the ground, convinced I'd just ended my career as a biped. As a farmer. But I lucked out: some minor scrapes, some whiplash, a bruised arm, and a sore back. No broken bones. Not bad. I lived, thankfully, to tell the tale and to remind everyone to appreciate balance—gravity will punish you for excess.- Jesse.

TO MARKET (IN SOMERSET!)
We are really (REALLY!) excited to be doing an extra market this week....stopping by The Market on Main in Somerset. Our friend Jamie (of Sustainable Kentucky) invited us to come as visiting vendors and for Jesse to do a little fermentation demo. So, we will be there tomorrow night on the square downtown, selling our shirts, posters, and books - and Jesse will be making sauerkraut at 5:30. We are really looking forward to it - live music, a dance recital, hamburgers, and old friends - sounds like the perfect start to our August. We would love to see you there!- Hannah.
