STAY-CATION.
Hannah and I have been saving a little money over the season to afford us a small vacation. Well, vacation might be the wrong word for it. What we're really doing is taking a few days to go see the folks in November up near Lexington, and we're truly looking forward to it––to a tiny, ahem, stay-cation.We're excited to see family. We're excited to see some friends. And we're excited to take advantage of two of our favorite towns––Louisville and Lexington––a bit like a tourist might get to. Which brings me to the reason for posting this: What's going on in Lexington and Louisville in mid-November?Where should we eat? Where can we catch some good music? Where should we grab a lively cup of coffee... a cold pint of beer? What about art museums? Exhibits? Antiques stores and thrift shops? We know these cities fairly well, but new things seem to be popping up every day––what are they!?I should add that although we chose to stay in Kentucky to see our family and because we didn't have a lot of money to do otherwise, we also chose to take our vacation here because of how good Kentucky has been to us these past two years and how proud we are to be from this wonderful and ever-evolving state. In essence, we really wanted to give back what little we could, so please leave us a comment and help us build our plans to do so!- Jesse.
A DAY IN PHOTOS: BIRTHDAY IN BG.
Since my birthday fell on a Friday, it was mostly filled with harvest and being exhausted. We decided to take the following Tuesday and Wednesday and spend the night in Bowling Green, where we deliver our CSA. Although the highlight was honestly probably taking a shower in the hotel (the creeks been a little too cold lately), we also did lots of thrift and antique shopping, and lots of eating of good foods. We are sort of in love with this town.- Hannah.
TO MARKET (IN SOMERSET!)
We are really (REALLY!) excited to be doing an extra market this week....stopping by The Market on Main in Somerset. Our friend Jamie (of Sustainable Kentucky) invited us to come as visiting vendors and for Jesse to do a little fermentation demo. So, we will be there tomorrow night on the square downtown, selling our shirts, posters, and books - and Jesse will be making sauerkraut at 5:30. We are really looking forward to it - live music, a dance recital, hamburgers, and old friends - sounds like the perfect start to our August. We would love to see you there!- Hannah.
CALIFORNIA.
The blog has been a bit quiet lately, mostly because I have been in San Francisco this past week for my best friend's wedding, leaving Jesse all alone to man the farm. I feel completely blessed to have been able to fly across the country to visit the lady love of my life, and so thankful for my husband - allowing me to leave at such a busy time of the season! It was a much needed and very unexpected vacation, an amazing time spent with friends old and new. I am headed back to Bugtussle in the morning, eager to see Jesse and Wendell and our new baby chicks that just arrived! So, sorry for all the photos, and we will be back to our regularly scheduled farm posts after this brief Californian interruption.- Hannah.Early morning flight.
