LIVING ON THE FLY.
This is where we have been keeping our eggs lately. Because...we couldn't find an egg carton when we were collecting eggs, because we are constantly leaving the egg cartons at the farm we have been watching for our friends and neighbors in Red Boiling Springs (Tennessee!). We have to get up early each morning and drive back to our farm (at Bugtussle) to feed Wendell and play with him a bit before we drive down to barn where the chickens are. It is all a bit scattered right now - all of our things in one place, our animals in another, our hearts and minds in a little cabin that doesn't exist yet. We are definitely living on the fly, trying to figure out a rhythm and balance to our days when not much exists yet to ground us. BUT it is a happy sort of unbalanced - a crazy balancing act that I know is only temporary. And as I write this, I am reminded of how lucky and blessed we are. Our new internet friends Caleb and Marci are also building their own cabin, and Marci's recent post is a beautiful piece about their own chaos and stress and worry....so much greater than ours with their baby on the way!I am by no means complaining! Basically, I am only writing to say things are crazy down here, and we've got lots of eggs rolling around in the front seat of the truck....but everything will work out. And we are happy. Very.- Hannah.
AN EARLY SURPRISE.
Jesse and I have been helping out some neighbors this week by watching their farm while they are away. It has been really wonderful spending time at their cabin - it is completely solar powered, has a plumbing system that pumps water up from the creek, and it even has internet! So, imagine our surprise when we logged on to our computer last night and found that with nearly two weeks left on our fundraising campaign....WE DID IT! Or should I say, YOU did it! We are 100% funded and on our way to building our own cabin. Jesse and I are overwhelmed with gratitude, humbled by the generosity of so many friends, so many farmers, AND so many complete strangers! We have been diligently working on our homesite every day....clearing and cutting and pulling and pushing. We have drawn up lots of plans and are meeting this week with a friend and neighbor about setting the foundation....it is really happening! As we have said a hundred times but we mean it EVERY TIME - thank you thank you THANK YOU for your support, your prayers, your contributions, your words of encouragement...thank you for being a part of this little community that has kept us going this year. We literally could not do this without you.WE LOVE YOU ALL! THANK YOU!- Hannah & Jesse.
NEW VIDEO.
On Friday we took a rainy day trip down to Bugtussle to get some plants in the high tunnel and take some better measurements of the cabin site. We can now get a better idea of the cabin design and square footage. Hopefully, we'll start posting some blueprint pictures soon and in less than two weeks we'll be relocating to Bugtussle to start the infinite quantities of clearing required before we can start framing, then––anagrammatically––farming. To help continue promotion on our fundraiser, we've made another video from our day! Please watch and continue to share our fundraiser page––we're half way to our goal with 28 days left to raise the rest but we can't do it without your help! In the video you'll see the cabin site and how much work we have ahead of us before we can even start construction. Watch the video HERE!- Jesse.
