BROODING ONE CHICK.
Brooding only one chick is the most ridiculous thing. Truly. It means sometimes starting a fire in the woodstove before we leave for market....just for her so she won't get too cold. It means digging through the dirt outside to find worms and grubs that we then have to mash up with our fingers for her. It means coming home to find that she has jumped out of her little box and pooped all over the floor. And all of this for what could actually be a HE.But....it also means lots of cuteness. So I guess we will keep it up.
THE CHICKEN PARADE.
Meet the newest members of the farmstead!
These guys (gals, hopefully) arrived on Wednesday. They are a bizarre lot, and we have no idea what kind of chickens they are - although we have our speculations. We are pretty sure that the little brown one with the weird head will turn out being THIS! It is fun having a new project in our lives, but chicks are a lot of work, especially in the beginning. In fact, we have been keeping them inside by the constantly roaring woodstove, which is a kind of torture for us on these warm, sunny days! Jesse is building a brooder this week, and I'm looking forward to moving the little ones outside where they can start foraging and scratching in the grass, instead of heating up our little cabin and pooping on the floor.- Hannah.
THE CUTEST TIME OF YEAR.
Lambing season is definitely one of my favorite times, and at Bugtussle Farm, that time is now! It is a joy to be neighbors to these animals, and if you'd like an overdose of cuteness for yourself, Cher has been posting about the new arrivals here.- Hannah.
