THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT.
Jesse put our new chainsaw to good use this week. We found a wonky little cedar tree to be our very first Christmas tree! We have collected only a handful of ornaments from our first two years of marriage, and I haven't yet found any good solar or battery-powered Christmas lights, but our little cabin is definitely feeling much more festive.- Hannah.
CABIN UPDATE.
We had a very productive, construction-filled weekend. We finally started work on the bathroom. This project has seriously been at the top of the to-do list for months...it is amazing how the vegetables always seem to trump EVERYTHING ELSE in the summer. So with colder weather and less garden responsibilities, we were able to build a frame for the outhouse, knock out another large portion of the siding, and make some cedar windowsills for the cabin. It continues to blow my mind how small things make such a big difference in the house. These little windowsills covered up the remaining visible traces of drywall, and the living room instantly looked cozy, warm, and finished. Rustic, yes, but almost sort of kind of finished.- Hannah.
WENDELL WEDNESDAY.
It was like springtime here in Nashville yesterday, so we got a lot of work done with the cedar shake project. Wendell was a big help, as always.- Hannah.
LONG DISTANCE CABIN BUILDING.
I would like to go ahead and apologize for the amount of times you will no doubt see or hear about me making cedar shakes on the blog over the next few months––it's gonna get ridiculous. Making enough shakes to cover the house is a huge endeavor and is going to occupy a big portion of my time. But one of the beauties of it is it's something we can do while we're in Nashville, right in the back yard with plenty of help!- Jesse.
