BEFORE WE GO.
We are SO EXCITED for the Kentucky Green Living Fair coming up in just a few short weeks! Not only will we get to reconnect with many of our favorite farmers, but there will be food, music, and lots of demos and workshops on topics like beekeeping, homebrewing, fiber arts, raising milk goats, composting, DIY solar....and on and on and on. Jesse will be teaching a workshop on fermentation!BUT - since we are leaving in two days for Bugtussle....we have A LOT of work to do in preparation, trying to take advantage of computers and phones and printing shops while we have the chance. We are bringing lots of shirts, bags, posters, books, and notecards with us to the fair, and I have been hustling to get everything sorted and ready. Here's a little peek at what you can find at the fair! We truly hope to see many of you there....we would love to meet you!- Hannah.
GET TO KNOW YOUR FARMACIST.
Much of this year at Rough Draft will be spent finishing the cabin, turning our extensive cedar forest into gardens and pastures and orchards and siding, basically...getting prepared to farm. With no garden space even close to being ready, we aren't exactly expecting a lot in the way of produce to sell this season. With that in mind, we knew we'd have to (literally) get creative to make some income this year - starting today! We are happy to announce: The Rough Draft Farmstead STORE!Over the last year we've had a series of ideas we're excited to finally be able to bring to fruition, the first of which is our "Get to Know Your Farmacist" shirts and bags! This is really just the beginning - we've got lots of other designs and ideas and products we are working on (with the lovely Night Owl Merch), but we are starting off with this first, limited pressing as a sort of trial run. It will let us know what we should bring to the Kentucky Green Living Fair next month! So if you love the farmers in your life (or if you simply want to support us two fledgling farmers), then head on over to the store and have a look! We hope that this can grow into a somewhat consistent business for us, to help us make it through our big year of farm preparation - so if you know of any businesses, farmer's markets, etc. that might be interested in carrying our apparel - please spread the word!- Hannah.
CHRISTMAS CARDS ANYONE?
Since Jesse is working most days and I am still on the hunt for a holiday job, I have had a lot of free time lately...and I do mean A LOT. I have spent most of it applying for jobs, looking on craigslist for wood cook stoves and cast iron tubs, drawing, and generally trying not to go insane. Just the other day I started working on these Christmas cards using an amazing photograph of Wendell taken by the lovely Klara.I really love how they are turning out. I thought about perhaps selling sets of Wendell notecards to make some extra money...but then I thought that maybe there might be some folks out there interested in their own personalized holiday notecards using their pets. Yes, no, maybe? If you are interested, send me an email at roughdraftfarmstead@gmail.com and we can talk about the specifics. Not only would you be supporting the farm, but you would be keeping me from going insane. AHHHHH I'M SERIOUSLY LOSING MY MIIINDDDDD GIVE ME SOMETHING TO DO- Hannah.
POSTCARD PEEK.
We have been so touched and overwhelmed by the response to our cabin campaign. And because of the tremendous response...Jesse and I have to get busy working on those perks! I spent yesterday finishing up some postcards for our lovely contributors. It is fun to have so many projects going on again - making tote bags, drawing and painting, and designing labels for Jesse's wine! We'd been feeling a bit lost lately - not knowing how to fill our days, what to do in our neglected garden. With the hope of our move and the help of so many of you, it is nice to have a purpose again!- Hannah.
